Course Objective:

Hazard communication is now more than ever a very important component of doing business in the global market place. Workers, employees, and the general public have the right to know what are the hazards that are related to each of the chemical products that are being offered in the marketplace.The Global Harmonized System (GHS) aims to standardize the labeling of chemicals in international trade and therefore simplifies hazard communication at all levels.

  

New rules and regulations will be in effect very soon that will requires all companies that manufacture, distribute, import, export, transport, and use chemicals in various processes to implement GHS in their labels and to prepare Safety Data Sheets (SDS) related to their products. This course will teach the basics of GHS and HazCom to enable your company to be compliant to the upcoming regulations requiring labeling and SDS. By implementing GHS and HazCom in your operations you are assured of competitive advantage in the global market place.

Berwyn Salazar, REA

Berwyn Salazar, REA is a Registered Environmental Assessor under the California Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Toxic Substances Control (CalEPA-DTSC) program. Mr. Salazar is a trained and certified Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) practitioner for more than a decade and has worked on many projects involving management of hazardous materials for projects throughout the United States. He is a consulting project manager and engineer with Tetra Tech, one of the major players in the global environmental consulting and engineering sector with more than 13,000 professionals, engineers, and scientists in 300+ offices worldwide. Mr. Salazar is the resident environmental engineer assigned to manage projects at the Los Angeles International Airport and co-manages other projects throughout the western US for major clients such as the Ports of San Diego, Los Angeles and Long Beach, Los Angeles Unified School District, Cal-EPA, Southern California Gas Company, and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

He had previously managed projects and laboratory operations for Advanced Technology Laboratories in Long Beach, California and American Environmental Testing Laboratories in Burbank, California. He has also managed the health and safety program for various entities as a consultant and as a Site Safety Officer for numerous projects prior to joining Tetra Tech.

Mr. Salazar is concurrently the President of Data Validators LLC, a third party environmental data management company with projects all over the US. He was also the co-founder of IAQ+ LLC, company that provides indoor air quality and hazardous materials management consulting based in Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Salazar graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology with a BS in Computer Engineering and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration with focus on Sustainability (GreenMBA™) at the San Francisco Institute of Architecture.
