Overview

INTRODUCTION:Spanish is the second spoken language in the world with 500 million if we count people who have learned it as a foreign language, it is the third most widely used language for the production of information in the media, and the third language with more Internet users, and it is one of the six official languages ?? of the ONU and also the official language of several major international political and economic organizations.

COMPETENCIES: The purpose of this course is to provide an excellent training in Spanish to reach all the individual needs of students, taking into consideration the characteristics, process and emotional cores of every student, and motivating them in the process of learning with an open, sensible and flexible attitude.

Completing all the sections of this initial course of Spanish, students should be able to speak Spanish in a basic way and will learn how to express opinions, feelings and needs in an easy way. They will be able to read and write simple texts, notes and brief letters.

Course Outline

  • Lesson 1
    • Personal information. Present tense of verb to be. Introducing yourself. Interrogative pronouns, Negation. Inquire and report the name and origin. Alphabet and spelling. The surnames.
    • Numbers from 1 to 10. Checking in a hotel. Present tense of verb to have and interrogative pronouns. Informal greetings and farewells.
    • Profession, occupation and address. Talking about the profession or occupation. Regular verbs in the present tense finishing in -ar, er, ir. You (formal/informal). The stress.
    • Where is Spanish spoken? The importance of Spanish.
  • Lesson 2
    • The family. The intonation of the sentence. Describing the physical appearance. Family names. Possessive adjectives.
    • Adjectives of character. The present tense of verb like. Describing the character. Politeness. The accent on the penultimate syllable.
    • The jobs. Words ending in a vowel-n or -s that are not stressed in the penultimate syllable. The demonstrative pronouns. Individual treatments. Formal introducing to others.
    • The family in your country. The family in Spain. The main family parties.
  • Lesson 3
    • Food. Gender, number and definite articles. Expressing likes and talking about frequency. The tapas and the use of diminutives. The stress on the last syllable.
    • Numbers up to 1000. Weights and measures. Expressing opinions. The present tense of verb to seem. The written stress on the last and the penultimate syllable.
    • Eating and food. How to deal with a restaurant. The indefinite article. The letters ce, zeta and cu.
    • The good Spanish cuisine. Food and schedules.
  • Lesson 4
    • The city. There is/are, there has/have, much, too. Describe a neighbourhood. The village square.
    • Asking about directions or reporting. Public and commercial establishments. Irregular verbs go, continue, do, and prepositions used with transportation means. Politeness.
    • Sound [y] and graphs [y] and [ll].
    • The ordinal numbers. Draw attention and give information. Commercial and professional establishments. Placing places by distance. The stress on the penultimate syllable.
    • A walk in Madrid. Four neighbourhoods in Barcelona.
  • Lesson 5
    • Verbs of everyday action and times of the day. Speaking about frequency. The sound [g], [gu] ..
    • Commercial schedules. Asking and telling the time. The days of the week, months of the year and the seasons. The prepositions with expressions of time.
    • One fair. Requesting an appointment. Personal pronouns with or without prepositions. Greetings.
    • Las Fallas. The San Juan night.
  • Lesson 6
    • Meeting friends. Going to + infinitive, thinking about + infinitive, want to + infinitive. Leisure time. Meeting and excusing.
    • Tourist attractions. Comparing. The comparative structures. The Spanish and its holidays. The [m], the [n] and [ñ].
    • The phone. Talking on the phone. Guideline for a telephone conversation. To be + gerund, finish + infinitive. The sounds [r] and [rr].
    • Music. Tango salsa and flamenco. By sevillanas.

Benito Bueno

Benito is graduated in Journalism and Communication for the UOC University of Barcelona and he’s got a master degree in “Teaching of Spanish as a foreign language” (ELE) at Cálamo & Cran School of Madrid.

He’s worked for several Spanish Media (Radio and TV) and he’s been teaching Spanish in:

  • “Oxford University Language Centre” in Oxford, United Kingdom
  • ”Athens Center High School” in Athens, Greece
  • “Humanity and Law University” in Astana, Kazakhstan

He is currently a Spanish instructor in the Philippines, doing one – one class for several firms and international schools based in Manila.

PERSONAL SKILLS:

Good training in dealing with individual needs of students. Wide experience in managing well the learning process and emotional core of students. Ability to relate in an open attitude, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability.
